Teaching and Learning

We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change.  And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn.  - Peter Drucker

What is Excellence in Teaching and Learning?

The mission of the Faculty Center (TFC) is to promote the value and practice of teaching excellence to improve student success at Stony Brook through innovation, collaboration and research. We collaborate with faculty and teaching assistants on mapping course design, classroom management, student-centered learning activities and assessment for tradititional, online and blended  courses. Training, consultation and resources are provided through TFC that promote excellence in teaching and learning strategies that engage students in discovery, promote self-directed learning and facilitate successful acquisition of expected student learning outcomes. Learning that extends beyond concept and theory involves the ability to analyze, synthesize and reflect where tudents develop a sense of inquiry that takes them to the next level of learning and discovery.
